Wayfinding and Safety Signage

Nobody notices wayfinding signage when it is done well. They notice it immediately when it is not, usually while standing in a corridor with no idea which way the meeting room is.

We supply and install the full statutory and directional signage package for commercial fitouts, medical centres, schools, industrial sites, resorts, body corporates and aged care facilities across the Sunshine Coast.

What is included in a signage package

Directional and directory signage. Wall mounted, suspended, post mounted and garden mounted directional signs. Building directories and tenancy boards.

Room and door signage. Office, consulting room, classroom and meeting room signs. Slide in or magnetic inserts where the occupant changes.

Braille and tactile signage. Required by the National Construction Code and AS 1428.1 for exits, sanitary facilities and a range of other spaces in public buildings. There are specific requirements on raised character height, braille positioning, luminance contrast and mounting height, and a certifier will check them. We make compliant tactile signage and we know the mounting rules.

Statutory and amenities signage. Exit signs, toilet and accessible facility signage, fire equipment identification, evacuation diagrams, room numbering.

Safety and warning signs. Hazard, mandatory, prohibition, emergency and first aid signage to AS 1319. Site safety boards for construction. Traffic and parking control signage for private property.

Parking and carpark signage. Bay numbering, accessible bay marking, visitor and reserved bays, speed and direction signage, height clearance bars.

Getting it right for the certifier

The reason this category exists as a separate service rather than sitting under general signage is compliance. Braille and tactile signage that is the wrong size, the wrong contrast or mounted at the wrong height will fail inspection, and it will hold up your certificate of occupancy at the worst possible moment.

We work from the schedule on your fitout drawings, or we walk the building and put the schedule together for you. Then everything gets made and installed to the relevant standard so the certifier signs it off first time.

If you are working to a construction program, tell us the practical completion date early. Signage is nearly always the last trade on site and nearly always compressed. We plan around it.

What is the difference between wayfinding and statutory signage?

Wayfinding helps people navigate, so directories, directional arrows, room names. Statutory signage is what the building code, Australian Standards or legislation require you to have, so exits, braille and tactile, accessible facilities, fire equipment. Most projects need both, and we supply them together.

Do braille and tactile signs need to meet a specific standard?

Yes. AS 1428.1 covers character height, raised character requirements, braille translation and positioning, luminance contrast against the background, and mounting height and location. It applies to buildings that need to be accessible under the National Construction Code. We make to that standard.

Can you match the signage to our interior design scheme?

Yes. Compliant signage does not have to look like it came out of a hardware catalogue. Within the contrast and legibility requirements there is plenty of room for material, colour and finish choices. We do the design in house.
